According to a report by Nebraska Radio Network, a trucker who, a year ago, plowed his tractor trailer into the back end of a traffic line on I-80 in Nebraska, taking the lives of a mother and father, their two children, and an unborn baby, has received a 20-year prison sentence.
The trucker, a 37-year-old male, agreed to a guilty plea in exchange for a reduced sentence. His charges included four counts of motor vehicle homicide and one count of motor vehicle homicide of an unborn fetus.
It was determined from the evidence and testimony given at the case’s three-hour preliminary hearing last year that the trucker did not decelerate at all before the fatal collision occurred. Witnesses of the terrible accident said the trucker was going about 75 miles per hour. Read the rest »
According to a report by The Star-Ledger, Yankees all star player Alex Rodriguez, also known as “A-Rod,” has filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against team doctor Chris Ahmad and New York Presbyterian-Columbia Medical Center. This is just one of many new developments for the prodigious batter who is currently embroiled in a performance-enhancing drug scandal and another lawsuit with Major League Baseball (MLB).
The lawsuit alleges Ahmad failed to inform Rodriguez of a superior labral tear at the left hip after an MRI examination was conducted on October 11, 2012. Rodriguez was allowed to continue playing during playoffs, which, according to the suit, caused him further injury, leading to additional costly surgeries.
This suit and the suit against the MLB were both filed in New York State Supreme Court. The Yankees were not identified as a liable party in either case. Read the rest »
According to a report by starherald.com, on the morning of October 4, the Nebraska State Patrol received a report of an accident on Highway 20, four miles east of Crawford. Not too long before that, the area experienced heavy snow falls and a blizzard watch was declared.
Officials found a devastated pickup truck at the scene of the accident. The driver was going east when he lost control due to slippery road conditions caused by the snow. The pickup drifted into the path of an oncoming semi truck. The resulting collision killed the driver of the pickup along with two passengers, including one in the backseat who was ejected from the vehicle. The driver of the semi truck was taken to a Chadron hospital with minor injuries. Read the rest »
According to a report by the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Toys ‘R’ Us issued a recall of about 12,650 Journey Girl Travel Trunks. After receiving numerous reports of incidents involving the trunk, including one incident in which a consumer needed to receive stitches, the toy company determined that a defect with the trunk’s blue metal handle posed a laceration injury risk to consumers and consequently issued the recall on September 27.
The Journey Girl Travel Trunks are 21 inches tall and intended to hold 18-inch-tall dolls. Geometric patterns of purple outlined by blue cover the trunk’s exterior. The trunks were sold in a set that included three clothes hangers and two drawers. The affected models can be identified by their UPC #4897027965070 and model number 5F5F79E.
