Two I-80 Crashes Leave 5 Dead, 1 Arrested in Nebraska

According to a North County Times news report, two western Nebraska traffic accidents that claimed the lives of five people on Interstate 80 (I-80) stemmed from a truck forced to stop because of mechanical problems. The first collision occurred about 40 miles from the Wyoming border on the morning of September 9 when a tractor trailer ran into the stalled truck on the westbound lanes of the interstate. A second semi truck then struck a car that had stopped because of the accident, and the driver of the truck is now facing manslaughter charges.

The second fatal NE truck crash occurred about two miles east of the first site when the 36-year-old big rig driver slammed into the back of the smaller car, which reports indicate was a 2010 Ford Mustang. The force of the impact pushed the car into a 2007 Toyota Corolla, which was then shoved underneath the semi that was sitting ahead of it. The driver of the Mustang tragically died, as well as the driver of the Corolla and the two juveniles who were passengers. Read the rest »
